Vine for a hot deck

karan_in_oregon(Zone 8 Oregon)March 26, 2013

Good morning,
I would like to have a vine planted in a good sized
container that would hold a trellis and also be
tied to the railing on the deck. In the
afternoon it is in full sun til sundown and gets very hot.
I am growing Cypress Vine from seed and have
several going. Would that work?
I also have some Black Eyed Susan seeds
I am going to start. I do have some Cobea
Scandens seedling that are about 10" or
so long that I am pinching, but I think they
would be too heavy and get too big.
I want it to be pretty and block the view.
TIA
Have a good day,
Karan

It is worth experimenting with the vines you mentioned, I suppose. Does it really get very hot in Oregon?

Major Wheeler Honeysuckle is a good choice. Zone 4-8. I have one growing up my deck and the hummingbirds love it!
