Boston Ivy - growth habits to expect
We are thinking of planting some Boston Ivy on the back of our fence to soften it and give the backyard a more "nature" or "in the wild" feel. (Or if you talked to my oldest son it would be to turn our backyard into Wrigley Field)
I have a few questions I am hoping you all will be able to answer for me.
We live in SE Wisconsin - Zone 5, technically zone 5b, but that can be debatable at times. We would be planting it on a fence that is on our southern lot line on the north face of the fence.
*What can I expect out of Boston Ivy and its growth habits in my zone/climate?
*How much growth the first season?
*How much die back over the winter months in my zone? 1/4 of the plant? 1/2? Entire plant die back to the ground? Or is it dependent on the severity of the winter?
*I know that Boston Ivy can be a handful in the warmer zones down south - taking off like Kudzu - but will it pose that kind of problem for me?
*What kind of coverage/spread can I expect from one plant?
Thank you so much for any information, advice, and feedback.
