Roma Tomato plant issue

chrisandjenny2003(9)May 9, 2009

HI. My roma tomato plant has a few small green tomatoes started. The other day I noted one of them has a brown spot on the bottom. When I checked yesterday, several had this and the spots are soft (basically rotten areas). So, I plucked them off. What is this and how do I prevent it? Thanks in advance.

It is called BER (blossom end rot) and is common with the first early fruits thanks to the spring weather, more common in some varieties than others, and more common in roma-types than other varieties. It goes away. ;)

The FAQ below provides more details.

If you want to read more about it just do a search here using 'BER blossom end rot'. Lots of discussion on it.
