"The structure of the charcoal provide a refuge for small beneficial soil organisms from large grazers like earthworms." Although this sounds bad for worms I think it is good because it gives the small beneficial soil organisms a chance to reproduce.

Hopefully our working bins are so full of organisms that it doesn't matter.
