Can I drastically cut back a bougainvillea?

tomatotomataJuly 24, 2012

It's over 20 years old. I've already cut it pretty far back (to replace the fence it was growing on), but I'm thinking of trying to train it into a tree-like form. I assume that means cutting out all but one stalk. Thinks that's possible? Or am I just dreaming?

Yes, it's possible - I see them frequently in yards in my area. The box stores all sell it in the tree form and they are beautiful and EXPENSIVE. Do a search on how to make a Bougainvilla into a tree form.
