Another wisteria question.

topsiebeezelbub(z7 Al)July 31, 2012

I just mowed down a large area of vinca major and surprise! There is a thick basketweave of wisteria vines all over the ground. Have been trying to dig them out, but its really hard. If I use roundup will the death juice go all the way back into the mother tree wisteria, which I don't want to kill? I will try to sever the long runners from the mom, but I may not get them all separated. Sneaky plant.

Can you start at the mother plant and cut everything heading down and sideways? IME you need an air strike to take out wisteria at all, and I doubt that hitting the offspring with RU will affect the mother plant, but if you want to keep the mother plant I can understand your concern. They're a bear to dig up,too. "Sneaky" is not the word that I would use but it does apply.
