Is Mahonia japonica hardy in DFW ?

Trying to help my son find a narrow shrub that will live in part shade. He's in Plano. Will Mahonia survive a hard winter? TIA

Believe the leatherleaf mahonia usually sold around DFW is mahonia bealei. It is very similar to m. japonica and does quite well here.

That's the one. Thank you Bostedo.

A source I'd read said it might be damaged in zone 8a winters. Another said hardy to zone 5! Hence the confusion.
