Is Mahonia japonica hardy in DFW ?

Trying to help my son find a narrow shrub that will live in part shade. He's in Plano. Will Mahonia survive a hard winter? TIA

Believe the leatherleaf mahonia usually sold around DFW is mahonia bealei. It is very similar to m. japonica and does quite well here.

Here is a link that might be useful: Leatherleaf Mahonia (DCMGA)

That's the one. Thank you Bostedo.

A source I'd read said it might be damaged in zone 8a winters. Another said hardy to zone 5! Hence the confusion.
