Vigna Caracalla propagation....

telly2(7 b - Alabama)August 22, 2008

Hi everyone ! I posted this question on the Propagation forum, but haven't gotten any response yet.

Does anyone know if Vigna Caracalla can be propagated by a cutting ? I have a healthy one that's getting ready to bloom, but I've read that they don't always produce seed, for whatever reason.

So I'm thinking that maybe I should try a cutting, if that's possible. I'm a novice with cuttings, so if you think it would work, could anyone offer some basic instructions ?

Thanks a heap !

I have rooted both in potting soil and water. Just took cuttings, dipped in rooting hormone, put in damp potting soil, covered with clear plastic dome and waited. The ones in water were accidental as I just could not throw away long runners that I had cut when moving the vine in. I put them in a bucket of water and left them all winter. The following spring there were several that had rooted.
