Canary Bird Vine

msbattAugust 28, 2012

I don't think I have EVER been as disappointed with a vine as I have been with this one. The seeds were slow and erratic germinators, and the vines grew rapidly, but then started turning yellow and spotty. The put on buds---and then the whole thing died.

Don't waste your time or money on this thing.

I think that is a little harsh. Tropaeolum peregrinum is a perfectly fine little vine for the right conditions and if you have realistic expectations of its growth habit. It is not a big vigorous vine but rather delicate in leaf and flower. If you know what to expect and have the right climate it will not be a disappointment. As to wasting money and time - a packet of 30 seed costs a couple of dollars and no special conditions or treatment is required for growth.

Some years this vine does well for me and other years I have results similar to the OP. I certainly wouldn't discount this vine, when it does well it's quite pretty.
