I am not an expert but know plants sometimes do what you describe when you bring them in, then they recover. Does Mandevilla require a dormant period, anyone?

I don't know if they need a dormant period or not but mine always lost there leaves. I am growing mine rather dormant this year in the cellar and hope it will come back in the spring.
