soaker hose placement

Mistee17April 4, 2012

Hi - I am creating a new garden bed. It will be raised and have a border around it. Now, my friend says to lay the soaker hoses all around the plants and then cover all with dirt.

Then ,I can add mulch. I, am wondering shouldn't the soaker hoses go on top of the soil around the plants and then add the mulch??? What do you think??? Thanks,Mistee

Soaker hoses occasionally spring leaks, shooting a fine jet of water into the air. You won't be able to see it, if you've covered the hose with dirt. You can also better gauge how far the water is spreading laterally if the hose is on top of the ground.

Hi Whitecap - So, do you mean I should just cover the hoses with mulch? That way, they will be easy to check if anything happens? Thank you, mistee

I cover mine with leaves. I don't think they're particularly attractive.
