What is this Weed?

Suzi AKA DesertDanceApril 5, 2013

This weed grows about 2 feet tall, and has green buds that look a little like okra, about 3-4" long. The stems are fuzzy, like velvety. Leaves are large.

I pulled out some dead ones and they had spikey pods that were roundish.

Anybody able to ID it?

Oh great! Highly toxic, often fatal, and it's all over our property!!

Thanks for the ID! Going to hit it with Round up before it blooms this year, and if any seed pods get by me, I'll stuff them down the gopher and vole holes!

...could be Burdock. They have a flower head that dries to form a burr, like what you mentioned. I attached a URL link for you to check out for yourself~

~sorry, just re-read your post and must have missed you mentioning the buds looking similar to ocra (it was late at night, haha) yeah, sounds like Datura, not Burdock!

That link I included though does have some great pics and info on many types of weeds! Hopefully others can benefit from that!

Here is a link that might be useful: info & pics on Burdock

Not Burdock. That doesn't have leaves coming off a central stem. They come from a central rosette. Definitely Solanaceae.
