HD had 50% off bulbs, but what do I do with them?

Lynn MarieMay 28, 2012

I'm searching the internets, but I want advice from the local experts too... should I plant them now, or wait till fall? They were going fast, so I just grabbed things I thought were pretty...

Tiger orange lily

Clemantis, Belle of Woking

Tritoma, red hot poker

Ixia

Dutch Iris (OMG, there are 20 bulbs in the package! Anyone want some???)

Thanks in advance for any planting suggestions.

I'd go ahead and plant the Dutch Iris in pots in part shade, then plant them in the ground come fall. I think they'd be happier that way rather than staying in a bag inside all summer. Plus, that way you can give away plants instead of "bulbs" at a fall swap. :) And, thanks, but I have enough iris!

I have no experience on the others, sorry.

I would plant them now. They will dry out over the summer, which is why they were 50% off.

You may already be too late. Feel the Dutch Iris in your fingers. If they feel like paper, dessicated, take them back and get your money back. Same for the lily and Ixia. If the clematis has some substance to it, you might try to soak it. But if you haven't planted these already, I would probably take them back.....sorry
