What type of weed do I have

cmeeksMay 3, 2007

I am trying to figure out what weed I have. This weed just starting growing everywhere - my lawn, flowerbeds and even in a large desert scene that gets very little water. While I was again pulling them out by hand, a landscaper stopped and advised me that the weed is a nutsedge. He also told me I was wasting my time. I found this website and read an entire post on nutsedge. I then checked other sites, studying pictures and am not sure if it is a nutsedge. Can some of you folks help me out.

Sure looks like yellow nutsedge to me - I think your landscaper is right.. Does it have a triangular stem? The nutlets (on the roots) are a bit of a giveaway too.

The stem does appear to be triangular however I am having a hard time seeing or finding the nutlets. This is why I am wondering if it is nutsedge.

Well, if you pulled it out, the nutlets are still in the ground.

Try digging one out.

If you find them small and can pull the plant out, you can eliminate some of them. The small ones will not grow the nutlets until later this year. The large ones have already made nutlets.
