What is this weed?

savanna07May 18, 2014

Saw this out on a walk the other day and I think it's beautiful. The plant is about 5ft tall and these blooms are about the size of my fist. It had huge thorns all the way up the stalk

I'm just wondering if anyone know what it is.. Thanks in advance :)

A thistle, (as artichoke is) but the foliage is not right for artichoke. Would help to see the base of the flower and the plant itself. If it was artichoke the base of the flower would look like exactly the lower half of an artichoke.

Cirsium vulgare, (Bull Thistle) perhaps?

I think this is Carduus nutans - Nodding Thistle.
