it's spring! what wildflowers do you all have?

dirtgirl(So. Illinois)April 6, 2006

Let's see....

right now there are:

bluebells (just now really getting started)

rue

spring beauties

cutleaf toothwort

trout lilies

dogtooth violet

TONS of purple and yellow violets of the usual variety which remain nameless to myself...

bloodroot

and what the heck--I'll toss out the pawpaw flowers too since they are 'wild' flowers

hardly any dandelions

Me? Muds, weeds and the few bulbs that refused to die under black plastic for a year.

I am holding out for next spring!

I'm working on getting those dirtgirl, I've got an order in at a native plant sale for a few more earlier type spring blooming wildflowers.....I did notice yesterday that my geum triflorum is getting little flower buds on it...it's my first year with it. Pretty cool.

Our prairie smoke is greened up & looking healthy, but no buds yet. We have crocus in bloom, but crocus is not native, & can't be called "wild." I think we are a month behind Illinois this spring.

Our prairie smoke is just beginning to bloom, and the daffodils have been at it for 3 or 4 days now. The back yard is lush & will need to be mowed soon. Blueberry shrubs are just beginning to leaf out.

mmmmm...blueberries.
Though it isn't a wildflower, our bladdernut thickets are in full bloom, and just found the first sprigs of goldenseal and ginseng.

And phlox, it's going stong too.
