Does anyone have any tricks for protecting their plants from gopher tortoises?

Good point. I have a lot of native plants on my property, though, and the gopher tortoises always seem to like whatever I plant that is new. Anything I paid for, I guess! I put up little chicken wire fences and it seems to work okay. Just wondered if anyone knows any other tricks. That DOESN'T hurt the tortoises of course.
