ID a weed in container soil

delorean76(4b)July 26, 2012

This weed started growing a few days after I transplanted a banana plant with fresh Miracle Gro cactus soil, about two months ago now. I don't think I've seen it growing naturally here in MN. I let it grow for curiousity's sake since it hasn't seemed to affect the banana at all. It started flowering this week. They're tiny whitish/purple flowers with four pairs of pedals. The leaves look similar to a peppermint plant but I couldn't find any other info on it.

What do the leaves feel like?

Nothing special, just a normal leaf. No aroma or anything either. Not sure if there's anything else you're looking for. Thanks

They're just normal smooth leaves. Maybe I should put it in the plant forum since it doesn't appear to be a common weed.

I found out it's a broad-leaved willowherb. I found the answer in the link below:

Yes it's an Epilobium. I am not familiar with N American species but it is definitely a willow herb. Get the seed heads off before they burst. They disperse by downy parachutes, like dandelions.
