something chewing on Japanese beetle bags.

bootrosJuly 25, 2006

It happened about a month ago when I first put the bags out. And today two of them have had the bottoms completely chewed out. What's bizarre is there wasn't any damage in the remaining time. Laura

I think Laura is referring to the bags that come with Japanese beetle traps. The trap consists of a plastic bag attached to a holder that contains an attractant to the beetles. For whatever reason the beetles fall into the bag, and in short order the bag fills up with beetles. (the one i have is called "bag-a-bug", by Spectracide.)

I accused our retriever of chewing on the bag, but it could have been raccoons. The decaying beetles certainly have a rank odor!

The other night, my wife and I heard a couple of coons fighting in the yard. The next morning the J.Beetle bag was ripped open! Too bad they don't eat the live ones with such enthusiasm!!!
