What is this plant/weed?

DeirdreCJuly 1, 2014

Hi there,

Our house was built in the 80s and since the day we moved in, four years ago, I have been battling this plant. It spreads like crazy, grows very quickly, pulls out very easy, and flowers into a red spindly looking thing.

Any ideas? Is it bee balm or something else? I even pulled one out and brought it to our local gardening centre. They didn't know either.

Lychnis chalcedonica is a desirable garden plant - not many people would consider it a weed. However, I don't think the flowers you showed come from the leaves/stems in the first picture. The Lychnis has furry stems and leaves for starters. Imo you have two different plants there.
