Need help with a tree/bush id

eileeninmdOctober 1, 2008

I am new to this forum except for lurking once in a while.

I wanted to see if someone could help me id this tree or bush. It has blue/purplish berries that the birds all seem to love. If it is not a poisonious one I would like to have one in my yard.

This tree was found in the woods across from my house. One person mentioned it could be sumac?

I think that's called devil's walking stick (aralia spinosa.) It's an unusual plant.

Here is a link that might be useful: devil's walking stick

Yes, the fruit looks like devil's walking stick and I know that plant has compound leaves too.
