Non recovery of Catawba crape myrtle ...

I posted about the sick Catawba crape myrtle several weeks ago. Now I'm wondering if once a crape myrtle is stressed it has a difficult time recovering because after replanting in great soil and plenty of water, even rain! -- it's still putting out pale sickly leaves. But lo and behold HEB on Wurzbach and IH10 in San Antonio has 4-5 ft tall bushy healthy crapemyrtles in 3 gal. containers on sale for $7.50 and they had a Catawba so I'm replacing it.

It's strange that you had so much trouble with the Catawaba. I had 2 from the exact same batch. One flowered quite a bit. The other just sat there not even flowering or putting on leaves. I thinned the soil over it's roots and started a "pond water" regime. It finally bloomed after a month. The Catawaba CM seem to be more difficult to grow than other CMs.

PJ, that may be the case. That's why it's good that we can put our heads together on this forum and try to figure things out. The bush bloomed and I love the color, but it never did get as large as it should have; not near as tall as the one I just bought. We'll see how the new one does.
