Looking for suggestions for winter gardening

Does anyone know what flowers, plants or shrubs can grow during the winter season in NJ, which is zone 6 for me. Does anyone have any ideas?

"winter gardening" means a lot of different things to different people :-) Are you interested in plants that just live through the winter or are you interested in plants that offer a special interest in the winter (like flowers or berries, colored foliage, etc.)? And are these for indoors or outdoors?

Broccoli, cauliflower, beets, turnips, carrots, onions, garlic, mustard & collard greens, kale, brussels sprouts, winter squash...
