is it safe to use laundry/gray water on your vegetable garden?

Depending what kind of laundry products you use it might be okay for the plants, but my hubby says the WI DNR has rules against putting your graywater into the ground directly without treatment. I have never read the rules myself, he says there is a WI .gov web site that you could check up on that if you care.

I know that many people do use gray water for there plants. I saw on the composting forum I think where there was a discussion on it.
