Vole extraction experiment

So one of the things I have noticed that come with having sandy loam is apparently also having voles! We have had an ongoing fight, them digging a gazillion tunnels and me stomping them down. Recently someone suggested putting wintergreen in their holes. Well, I don't have wintergreen but I did have some peppermint essential oil in my cupboard. Put a few drops on cotton pads and stuck them in the holes last night. I know it's still early, but YAY, no tunnels this morning. I will be curious to see how the next few days go. Anyone else ever try this?

No, but if it works, I will certainly try it. I have both voles and moles and they are destroying my beds, my garden and taking the seeds I plant to "whereever". They are worse this year than ever at my house.

Well, if the oil doesn't work and you don't mind killing the critters...

Check out the link below. We had 1 mole that quickly began destroying our front yard in less than a week. Only took one setting of this trap to quickly end it! I bought ours at Tractor Supply...well worth the money.

My cat has caught several voles, and brougt me a mole last week, but that did not make a dent in the population.
If you solved your problem with only one setting, I say you are one fortunate gardener.

I only had the one traveling mole that decided to move in. I'm keeping my trap handy for the next invasion!
