Wax Myrtles or Bayberries near Black Walnut?

hld6(z7 MD)June 19, 2008

Hi All,

I'm looking for an evergreen screen for a corner that is under power lines. So it can't get taller than 30' at maturity - unless I want our power company to come hack the h@#$% out of it! :)

To make things even more limited we have Black Walnuts nearby (~15' away) so I need juglone resistant plants.

Lists of these are incomplete and sometimes contradictory.

Does anyone here have Waxmyrtle (Morella cerifera/Myrica cerifera)or Southern Bayberry (Morella caroliniensis/ Myrica heterophylla) growing near Black Walnut or Butternut trees? If so, could you share your experience?

Thanks, Helen

Well I'm trying the wax myrtle. Someone has to first right? If I remember (which is a bit of gamble!) I'll try to post back my results.
