American Persimmon tree spacing for a tiny orchard

Lewis_27603November 8, 2013

I would like to plant some American Persimmon trees. Please offer you suggestions for cultivars and spacing.

We have a small unused plot of land, about 2000 sq-ft in area. It is shaped somewhat like an isosceles triangle with a 36' base and 100' sides. It is shown in red on the attached drawing.

I want to maximize fruit/pulp production in the relative short run, 5 to 15 years. We live in Raleigh, NC -- Zone 7.

15 to 20 feet spacing would be great for persimmons. I would consider 'Yates' for sure and 'Prok'. BTW you need to make sure you have a male or you will not get fruit.
