has anyone grown a redwood in their back yard?

If you ever did, after 40 years you would have enough wood for a nice deck and then some.

The blue rose, post on over in the "Conifers" forum. Folks there are pretty serious about their trees. They'll use Latin names and everything lol.

Include your geographic location and information on the planting are.

In general:
Coast Redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, grows into climate zone 7. It seems few folks really push this.

Giant Sequoia, Sequoiadendron giganteum, grows into zone 6, sort of. There are cultivars of this one which you can try into zone 5.

Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia Glyptostrobides, really does grow into zone 4. It is the least known of the three. Has a pretty neat discovery story.
