Searching for Poliomentha Longiflora

equinecpa(4)July 24, 2010

Does anyone have this plant or know where to get it? How is it propagated? It's supposed to be a Texas Native but I can't find it anywhere. I'd love to give it a try. I just lost a variegated oregano that didn't like getting soaked then scorched (crazy weather). I thought this might be a better replacement. I found it one place online but shipping was not affordable.

Looking up the botanical name online I see that your talking about what's commonly called Mexican oregano! It's a great plant. Blooms all summer and I use its leaves for flavoring all the time.

It starts very easily from cuttings, but it doesn't produce seeds. One site said this is likely from the lack of a proper polinator.

Nurseries in San Antonio usually carry it. Hopefully, you'll be directed to one that sells it in your area, or someone local that will offer cuttings.

Austin nurseries carry it. I love growing it. I have never had any luck mailing cuttings that were not rooted.
