naked home --new landscaping

catb(6 nj)June 18, 2006

just purchased a home and landscaping is totally overgrown and uncared for. We are going to take out EVERYTHING surrounding house and start over. Because the house had tiers of landscaping held back by railroad ties, these are being replaced with versa-lok stone. My question is: since we are doing this in July, is it ok to do plantings of shrubs, flowers etc in the hot summer months or should we wait until the cooler days of fall? Our home would be naked, put if that's what we need to do.......

The key with establishing in the summer is water. If it is neglected, the plants will likely die. It is more difficult in the summer and if time is an issue, it is easier to waitn until fall.
