spreading sand on a lawn for moisture retention

figgy(z7va)July 4, 2008

I once heard that spreading sand over your lawn was a great way to retain moisture on your lawn. What type of sand should I use and is this a good idea?

Dear Figgy,

Thank you very much for your inquiry. Sand topdressed on to a lawn will help with drainage, as it will begin to level out a lawn and provide better surface drainage, not necessarily moisture retention.

Again, thanks for the question and let me know if you have more.

Respectfully
