I can't believe I can send seeds to 52 people with a total of 239! Now I have to figure out how to cut down my list. But I can't imagine getting 200 of my want list filled.

I screwed up and ordered some plain old Coreopsis tinctoria would ANYONE want any of this?

I can't believe it is the wrong one....errr. I wish it were Coreopsis rosea it is pretty and pink.

OH well, ANYONE????
I have been working on bagging up seeds, gosh this takes a while.

I think I can do 77 wishes. I don't know how many people that is, not 77 that is just the number of different seeds I can do.

Oh, ooops... I posted to the old thread.... here's repost...

Below, I've linked to the entire compiled list of "want" lists in the GardenWeb Round Robin that Patty is hosting. Just download it, and open it with notepad. I would recommend editting the lists to leave just what you have in your seed stash for each person, since this is a really long list with all the players in one long file. From there, it should be very workable in helping you get the seeds you have to those that want them! I hope this helps you guys/gals!

Blessings,
Angela

Angela, thanks so much!

I won't start pulling seeds until well after xmas, but maybe I'll be able to work on the lists occasionally.

I agree, if people update their lists please post that you've done it, and make the additions and subtractions a separate part of the list. I don't mind checking a few times.

HOLY COW!!!!!! I'm in WARP Speed....been on dialup for so long, I didn't know there was anything faster than negative zero KBPS. WOW! Just got set up with a USB wireless modem....OMG!!!!! My pages...like...load!!!!!!!! I don't have to load a page...go make coffee, come back...watch it tick...make breakfast....watch it tick some more....make another cup of coffee...watch it tick...see a word or two....watch it tick even more....WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I spent most of today going through my list of haves for wants and packaging wants with names. OHHH My what a chore :) MY AFTER CHRISTMAS BAG IS FULL!!!!!!!! Have a few names that I just don't have anything for and a few others that just didn't have anything listed. I'll check back before I send my bag of goodies... I have mostly edibles....so flowers don't much fit. But I have lots of edibles :oD Hope that folks don't mind less than 20-25 seeds on some things. I split some of my haves (that really weren't up for trade, but I know how it is when you really want something (: ) and they may seem a bit short, but it's all I had to fill some wants. Heck I didn't think I had much to send, but I found a whole bunch of wishes :) that I have haves for :)

So, I guess that's a question I should ask...I've not contacted anyone with items I'd like to have, but have simply checked trade lists to see if I have their wants. I've just been trying to fill wants from want lists on their trade page. I've added a few items to my trade list
that I can't live without :) Are we supposed to email and request something from other traders?

This was discussed on the previous thread dirtdiggin. We're not "supposed to", but some people have been. Some posters stated their have lists are not updated. The way I have done it, is I only ask someone if they state on this thread that it is ok to ask. I dont want to bother anyone, but if they say they dont mind requests, then I do.

For the record, anyone can ask me if they want, I have what's on my haves list, but I have lots NOT on my list yet either.

MERRYÂ Â CHRISTMAS!!

I updated my list again today. I took off a couple things that I received from Secret Santa Swap and from MNF round robin for Dec. I also added a BUNCH. (For example: Camellia sinensis- green tea plant (hint- hint ;) )

I also added quite a few seeds that I was able to harvest in the past few days: Ilex opaca (American Holly), cattail and dusty miller to name just a few.

Watch me be one of the last ones to mail out to Patty :( I just need to get past these next couple weeks at work while we get through all the after Christmas sales and get all the Lawn and Garden stuff back into the department. I work in the Wal~Mart Lawn and Garden center and right now all the Christmas stuff is in my department. I'll be going through and starting to package up this week while I'm off work. I already have the baggies with everyone's number and GW IDs on them to make it easier on Patty. I'm sure I'm gonna go over the 200, so I figure maybe she'll forgive me if I have everything together for her to just drop into the BEs. And Patty, I'm fine with not receiving as many back as I send. DH will be happy about that too. :P~ But I'm also fine with receiving duplicates for some of my special wants. LOL, I'm not real picky. I know if I can't use all of what I receive, I can either trade them for other things, or have plenty of friends who would enjoy them!

Good news: I prepared my envelope to mail today
Bad news: My Goldenrod and Boltonia seeds were eaten by birds :-( I'm sorry to those who were looking forward to them.

I don't have as much to give as others, but I sure had fun preparing envelopes to share.

Ahhh Puff sorry about that, birds have got to eat though...lol.

My SO's son was upset this year because the Golden Finches LOVED his sunflowers and pretty much picked some clean! He got so mad he and his dad pulled them all up. I said ya'll should have left them out there for those birds! He saids this coming year he is going to put something over them so the birds will not be able to get the seeds out....nutty young'n, but I am going to try to have a large area with them so everyone and the birds can all have a share.

OK, adding some more items to my ever growing list.

Here's a helpful hint if you are still updating your lists. It's wonderful that some of you have added update dates for the things you've added. That helps a lot. But as I went through the lists again last night I found that some had taken things off their list that I had already set aside for them. If you could perhaps make a 'taken off the list' notation that would be helpful too.

I have updated my list (at least until a new catalogue comes in) and I am starting to bag up people's wants. If anyone makes more changes, please post on here. I'm gathering that most people will be changing their lists until the last minute since we are all starting to receive catalogues!

I have a couple of tamer goldenrods 'fireworks' and stiff goldenrod they aren't quite as invasive as the wild.
I also have updated I made a notation with the dates next to them.I have alredy separated the packs of seeds I received I have to keep on top of it so I don't get overwhelmed. I do however have to get tons more baggies for seeds going over lists seeing how many wishes I can fill I surely don't have enough seed bags LOL.

I'm not Patty, but my suggestion, unless she has a different way she wants to do it, would be to include those in the baggie/card/envelope that you're putting together for that person. That's what I'm going to do, that way she just has the one baggie to drop into the BE for each person from me.

It would be easy for the person requesting seeds that are not on their list to just add those seeds to their want list to avoid confusion. That way Patty does not have to look in more than one place.

Puff was going to send some goldenrod. I went to the field next to me and harvested these two species of goldenrod:

Atlantic goldenrod (Solidago arguta Aiton)
Virginia goldenrod (Solidago gracillima)

I also have coralberry (Symphoricarius orbiculatus)

Common thistle (Cirsium vulgare)

I don't have time to search everyone's list. Is anyone looking for any of these so I can package them up and ship them to Patty?

I had ordered some and it was a few things I KNEW folks wanted because of another swap I was in and I knew others would want even if these other folks had gotten this stuff in that swap so I have been busy packing and THIS TAKES me a while I am SLOW!!!
I have looked at your list and I am sure I have a few things I will be sending you. I am sure others will too. So no worries hon...you know there are always some that jump on the band wagon before everyone else...lol.

How many packs do I need to send to Patty? Better put it on your wish list!

I wish I had pictures to send of the Atlantic and Virginia goldenrod. I used one of my ID books from college to make a positive ID on them. There are 4 other species of goldenrod out there, but could not make a 100% match to the exact species. I have it down to 6, but could not go farther with the books I have.

Ok, maybe I need some clarification. I thought that even though we were sending our seeds packaged for individuals that Patty was still going to have to go through them so that say 15 people didn't send Strawberries and Cream nasturtiums to the same person? That way she could divide them up to someone who wanted them but didn't get any packaged for them. Am I making any sense? That's why I was asking about email requests. If I have something say in Patty's envelope that wasn't on her list how is she to know that it is a separate request?

Ok I am here you don't have to mark them special just put them with the others that you send for that player I don't go back and refer to the list unless I have to take some out or add some to each persons package and yes after all of the seeds are in I go through each package and take out any doubles unless you have said doubles are OK when you send your seeds make a note of that inside like duodecad and alwaysagarden did then I make sure the count is right you get what you send plus 2 extras from me. It works out good you will see. The players are pretty good about separating it makes it easier for me I have a system good thing this is not my first year or I would be lost I got used to doing it the last 3 years but I never had as many players I just needed to get more bags and a bigger notebook. It just still blows my mind that you have already received seeds. Some of us didn't even get our 'want' lists up until two days ago so that means for darn sure those people didn't send anything off 'our' want lists..
I've been going through all the lists and have found at lest one thing, somethings 3 and 4 off each person's want list.

Okkkkkk I for one didn't even start packaging seeds yet and probably wont until the end of the week. However I could have sworn that in the original thread for this swap, the cut off date for updating lists was listed as December 20th. A lot of people are continuing to add updates just because they know that a lot of people are just now starting to pack up. We talked on the last thread about the cut off date for list updating and then there was a flurry of updates that day. A couple days later I heard of the first packages being sent in.

I think that those people who were late updating will still get a lot of seeds from those that were late packing.

No smokymist, I think you just sound disappointed. NEVER FEAR you still have plenty who CAN still send to you!
I am planning on checking list again after I do my original list. I am hoping I can find more too because I would like to be able to send in as many as I can in HOPES of getting back as many as I can...I sure HOPE I can get some of my wants at least.
Like Patty keeps saying it will come together and everything will be ok! I am sure of it, this is gonna be fun and so exciting to see what we get returned!

Patty I KNOW this is a BIG job for you, thank you for taking this on. I am glad you decided to remove the limit although I KNOW it will be more work for you. I truly HOPE you don't get overwhelmed with all you will be doing for us.
I am glad you have done it before and you have a system you use. Which also helps. Thanks again I can't wait to see what comes back!!! I hope you get some nice things as well!!!!

Smokymist,

Been there, done that. I had to go to the dentist to have my feet removed! LOL!

I spent nearly a week going over lists. I was able to fill 54 wants from seeds and cuttings for 4 people. I knew I had to do it then, or it would not get done. I am a teacher and start back Jan 5th. We have 8 days left to teach then finals. I will be elbows and knees getting school done.

I was only able to find two things on your want list. Most of your wants are very specific and I did not have them.... Sorry. :(

I have another nice day here today and tomorrow. Anyone else for coralberry, rusty blackhaw, American holly (Ilex opaca) or goldenrods? I will harvest seeds upon request and package them up and send to Patty.

I didn't know about the cut off date...I havn't had time to come here everyday and check up on what is new, etc., and there have been so many posts. In my original email with the details there was no cut-off date on updating lists, and the last I saw ( which was probably on an old thread), as the cut off date for joining was December 20th .
Ahhh well...I just need to pay better attention, or not do swaps.
Yotetrapper I found quite a few things on your want list that I'm sending in.. and ncgardengirl boy howdy did I hit the jackpot on your want list....so you're getting quite a few from me lol.
Mark..I didn't find anything on your want list that I have. You were pretty specific as well, however, I do have a few varieties of gourd if you would like them. Just let me know !

My mom's neighbor gave her this iris originally and mom gave it to me. So it's old. They call it a Duckbill Iris. I swear it does look like a duckbill if you look at it just the right way. I'm sure it has a 'real' name though.
So has anyone heard of a duckbill iris ? I'd like to send some seed in.

Mark, I would LOVE some of that coralberry if you have any left!! :)

I spent 6hours yesterday seed sorting and bagging and just re-organizing all my stuff. I have a lil over 200 packs to send Patty..(206 I think..) lol I'm not going to get it in the mail to ya tho til sometime this next week. I managed to get at least one packet to everyone but there were 2 people that I saw (as of Friday) that still didn't have anything on their want lists. ? Should we just send in some generic seeds or?

Hi Smokymist ~~~ Never Fear, there are still a million traders in this swap that haven't sent in yet.

Remember how many seeds you got last year? And that was with about half as many traders as this year. It's all good.

I went through lists (and noted to go back to yours and someone else's who didn't have any listed yet)...and have been slowly getting things "baggied". I can't wait until mid-Jan for all of it, as I too have school (college; it's the middle of a 4 week intensive term).

I just updated my list. Our power was out from the 19th to the 21st so I did not get a chance to do it then. I only added five things at the end. The seed catalogs made me do it!

I'm ready to check the lists again and start packing up seeds. :)

You know, the problem with being an environmental science teacher is that you are a naturalist, herbalist, taxonomist, agronomist and anything and everything to do with nature. I went out today to gather more coralberry and rusty blackhaw for the swap and found about 15 more native plants that I can add to my HAVE list!

I gathered black walnut, native pecan, beach, showy goldenrod (Solidago erecta), giant goldenrod (S. gigantia), early goldenrod (S. juncea), two more species of verbena that I cannot identify yet, Jerusalem artichoke, dwarf cattail and more!

I have 10 packs of coralberry going to Patty for the swap. Make sure it is on your want list if you want some. I have three that have contacted me and have put names on envelopes. I have 5 packs of Atlantic and Virginia Goldenrod with names on two each. Anything else I mentioned that you want? I have one more nice day that I'll be walking through the field. Great chance to get some natives if you want.

Patty I don't know what Mark will think about this method BUT you could take strips of paper towels, moisten (just barely damp) wrap them around the rooting horomone, then place them in baggies. This way they can be shipped in the baggies...While in YOUR care blow air in to the bag THEN wrap them in paper towel (dry)or newsprint and place them in baggies to ship all you would have to do would be to transfer them into baggies to ship them in, don't worry about blowing air into them to ship, just make sure you have dry paper toweling aroung them and the person getting them can place them in dirt. Also, always make sure the paper towel around the rooting horomone stays fairly moist.
They CAN root with just moist paper toweling around them inside a bag, I have done it.

MARK: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some Jerusalem artichoke if at all possible! We have native verbena? Could you get some pics? I would like to see them.

HI Patty,

You can just keep them wrapped in that paper towel and moist like Fran suggested. Since I have had such LOW success on getting the fig and the lemongrass seeds to germinate I sent the cuttings for those people from their want list.

I am sending a second pack.

Janine, I have never tried iris seeds. Let's give them a whirl!

Are the cuttings already wet-paper-toweled and wrapped in plastic? I haven't worked with woody cuttings -- Even if these are wrapped, doesn't a month seems like a long time for them to survive?

If not (and I don't know how many were sent), I'd hate to even think of Patty needing to keep them viable, and doing more than she already will have to with all the sorting, weeding out for duplicates, matching up other things to fill in lots of packages...her plate will be full already.

This is the first seed robin I have seen that incuded cuttings. Would they not be better mailed directly to the recipient, depending of course on zone, time of year and the hardiness of the stock?
That sounds like a good idea for a swap for one of the groups-an all cuttings swap. I could go for that!

I asked for an address for the cuttings. I didn't get one and my package had to go because I will be VERY busy with school in a week.

Several people wanted fig and lemongrass seeds. Fig seeds have a VERY low germination rate so I sent cuttings to those that had it on their want list. same with lemongrass.

Sorry to cause such a stink and argument. I won't do it again. I was only trying to help.

BTW: here is the unknown verbenum. Anyone know what it is?

Mark, I surely did not mean to sound argumentative. A cutting swap sounds great, but may not lend itself well to this venue. If you decide to host one in the future, I would love to participate.

I guess I will just have to host a cuttings round robin a little closer to spring.

When I went through the lists from Dec. 20th to the 27th, the only two that had figs on their want list were Angellady and Sissifriss. The only one that had lemongrass on theirs at that time was Jworth.

Watch for a cuttings round robin in late February. Ok? I'll even host it!

I promise that I will get everyone that wants fig cuttings some when we do that swap. I have PLENTY! I won't bother Patty with them since I caused such a problem this time.

I'm not sure what to really do for this swap. I use to grow a lot back then, and just recently (this year) started back, and I only have Marigold seeds from harvest. There are 2 pictures of what they look like on my list. I apologize that I don't have a lot of variety of seeds to share except the Marigolds. They are different and bloom constantly - very strong.

This poses a question. If some of us are only able to send a few due to want lists, and others send a lot to us, do I need to do something about postage? I know that when you send seeds you need to have postage with it to send back, and when if others sends a lot to me I don't know how the postage would be done about that. I guess it is covered b/c everyone would be including postage? I were going to send an email about that in more detail in what I was meaning, but I hope I explained it the way I needed to here.

I plan to look through every single want list thoroughly and find someone. About the duplicates, are you meaning if some people send the same seeds to a particular person?

Take Care :)

Mark, I think a cuttings RR is a wonderful idea, though I don't have much that's ready to share cuttings of. New house and gardens as of last year, so everything's really young and I'm not sure just what's going to really make it through winter. I've had lemon grass on my wants for some time, so we just might have to do a private trade for some :)

Hi all I e-mailed Kamil and Linda to see if they are still playing. No response yet.

Mark I will join in a cutting swap in future the cuttings were not a big problem I just want to be sure I can keep them healthy until it is time to send.

Intelkid you only get as many packs of seeds as you send plus 2 from me as a bonus.Just because they are sent for you doesn't mean you will get them. Some people will only send 50 packs of seeds but will get 100 packs sent that is when I go over their list to see what 52 they would want the most. That is what a swap is your seeds for others seeds sorry you misunderstood. I will take one package of your seeds. Some people share their private stash for this swap I know I do.

grolikecrazy would like to join if it's OK with all of you we can let her join in LMK you will all have to check her list I have things to send from her list but unless all of you can agree it won't work out LMK so I can tell her.

I vote for letting grolikecrazy join. I have a few things I think I can send.

I do have a question though, if all the seeds sent to an individual don't go to them, it's done according to how many packets they send in, what happens to the extras? Are they shared out among everyone after each has the number they send in plus 2 from you, Patty? Not that I mind, I'm just curious! LOL, my nickname *is* Kat, after all! By the way, not sure if I mentioned, but I'm fine with doubles.

I'm going to work on my package today.

I have a couple of things for grolikecrazy-Chris. I don't mind a late signee. I am planning on checking over list one maybe two more times before I send to make sure I didn't miss someone I can send something to.

I think I would like to do a cutting swap but I would think it would need to be after April for most ppl because some are still under snow until then and sometimes later.
Some of mine will not wake up until then either, and I can't get it warm enough until around April to start cuttings, for the around constant 70 degrees they need to root.

Here's a question for all the bean veggie growers in here... I feel like it should be an easy answer but I've yet to figure this out... my family loves 'Great Northern Beans' and 'Butter Peas'.... now I cannot find these particular names anywhere in seed form so what is the REAL name of what I should be looking for so I can grow some!?!

Thanks in advance!

Jaleeisa,
The same total number of seed packs sent in to Patty are the same number of seed packs that get sent back out. There are no extras really.

If Trader A sends 10 packs in, Trader B sends 20 packs in, Trader C sends 30 packs...that totals 60 packs. 20 packs are sent in for Trader A...but only 10 go to her. 20 packs are sent in for Trader B...she gets the 20. 20 packs are sent in for Trader C...but she needs 10 more sent to her...so the 10 extras that were for Trader A now go to Trader C. Of course this is a basic example; Patty's dealing with 65 of us....

And this is where Patty's job gets tricky. She figures out which 10 will go to Trader A, based on what it seems they most want. She then takes all the extra packs that aren't being sent out to their intended recipient, and tries to match them up to someone who didn't get as much sent in for them, based on their want list, and apparent general likes. She fills in some from her own stash when there's a glitch like waaaay too many morning glories to work with at the end, but generally it works out very well.

Number In = Number Out.

(Patty, did I get this explained right?)

Wendy,

Great Northern Beans are similar to Navy Beans related to Kidney Beans Butter Peas are like a very tiny lima bean and are difficult to find in the US.

From what I read, that is their actual name, but probably just difficult to find here. Like Broad Beans were hardly heard of in the US until recently and you can actually find them here now. I'll check around and see if I can find some :)

Great! The canna seeds have found good homes.
I could join a cuttings swap in February too, but a semi-ripe swap in mid-summer would be super! Viburnums, Hydrangeas, Wiegelias, Japanese Flowering Quince, oh so many bueaties do so well rooted in summer. Maybe a cuttings swap will have to become a twice yearly event!
I say include Chris too.

Nah, dirtdiggin if they are invasive I better remove the Yellow Tansy from my list. Don't want anything that will take over...lol.
Thanks for the heads up!

David, sorry to see you go. Maybe you could check and see if you could pick up some cheapy seeds somewhere so you will have something to trade with. I did have something for you. Just one thing I think but it was something.

With David's drop does that mean we are now down 4 peeps? Man! I hate that.

Alright, I obviously did not understand how this works either. Forgive me for my ignorance. I thought that we go and look at people's want list. Which I did. Several times in fact. I wrote down each persons given # and I put the # on the seeds that they want and that I have. Most of mine are commercial and I am splitting my own stash or I plan on sending full packs. Some of My problem is that I only do edibles. So the people I have seeds for are edibles and they are specific. So you are telling me that if I send in 50 packs of seeds for 1 person that they REALLY WANT, they will not get them all even though they are on their list and I specify their #? Just to turn it around, you are telling me if I send in 200 packs of specific seeds that are on their want list and I might get 22 packs of flowers if no one sent in for me? Am I understanding it right?

Nancy, I don't think that Patty will send you flowers if you have edibles on your wish list. I don't envy the chore she is about to undertake, but as I understand it, the extras will be distributed by close wants on the wish lists.

Maybe I'm wrong...but I think that's how it will be :)

Hi All,

I just received a very important package in the mail today, so now I can really get down to work at filling people's wants. Woohoo you know are a seed nerd(my hubby's term) when you are excited about the prospect of sorting seeds on New Years Eve.

On another note, a friend of mine from work gave me several seeds of a popular Guyanese Pea which he called "Same".(he has tenants from Guyana who grow this) He said it can be eaten like a pea or like a snap pea. I have never heard of this and did not find it on the internet. It is a large black seed with a touch of white on the top. My Colleague tells me they are quite tasty. I have no room to grow veggies, so if anyone is interested in trying this Guyanese Pea, please post or let be know by E-Mail. I have plenty and will gladly send some along.

Happy 2009 to you all.

I'm halfway through the list and have something for almost everyone.....if only a few for each...........but if we have people dropping out I believe we need an updated list posted before we go any farther and maybe a "final notice" are people in or out. I noticed some people who joined still don't have a want list.............?

dirtdiggin & fran,
i have regular tansy growing (and seeds available it you want). it's a VERY aggressive self-sower. and if you rip it out and throw it across the street into the field (like i did), it grows across the street in the field AND in the place you thought you ripped it out of. i started growing it outside my kitchen door to keep ants away (seems to work) and now I manage to keep it under control. let me know if you want any seed.
i also say yes to allowing grolikecrazy to join.

Can I get both the Guyanese Pea and the Sweet Autumn Clematis? A neighbor that does not have a computer (I love her! 90+ years old and still works her garden!) and I am sharing my trades with her. she would like both if I can.

Yes, the cuttings swap will be for all cuttings. Still working on details and timing. It will happen!

(Hi Nancy,)

Forgive me for my ignorance.
(no need; it's all good learning)

I thought that we go and look at people's want list.
(yes)

Which I did. Several times in fact. I wrote down each persons given # and I put the # on the seeds that they want and that I have.

(right)

Most of mine are commercial and I am splitting my own stash or I plan on sending full packs. Some of My problem is that I only do edibles. So the people I have seeds for are edibles and they are specific. So you are telling me that if I send in 50 packs of seeds for 1 person that they REALLY WANT, they will not get them all even though they are on their list and I specify their #?

(only if they themselves send in less than 50 packs total for others; and as seen on the threads, often even newbies find they can send in about that many to those who list more general things.

HINT HINT HINT ---IF YOU HAVE LISTED SPECIFIC EDIBLES ON YOUR WANT LIST:
Get seed packs sent in so you can get seeds sent from Nancy! )

Just to turn it around, you are telling me if I send in 200 packs of specific seeds that are on their want list and I might get 22 packs of flowers if no one sent in for me? Am I understanding it right?

(In theory, but haven't seen it happen. Patty is amazing at rustling up things, but they may not be the specifics, but something similar.... Expanded description of that: (okay the rest of this text is mine/Tina's)
If you send 200, you will not get only 22 back...and they won't be all flowers, for starters I have your Fantalli peppers. Patty hustles something great to make it work. There are never certainties of what you are requesting that people have. But for example (I just checked my records), last year I sent in 133 packs and got back about 120 that I had want-listed, and about 13 that were obviously fill ins, 4 of which interested me and I sowed, and the last 9 I traded or gave away to newbies.

Last year I listed specific things (named types) and some general things (red sunflowers of any kind; black white yellow heirloom tomatoes; anything with Chocolate in the name), and that strategy makes it easier.

It is helpful if when someone says on their list "any kind of heirloom beans for drying/soup" (I don't have any of your other things, but if you're interested in heirloom black-eyed rice peas, I've got them for you).

Any flexibility in the heirloom tomato types? let me know, I have a bunch but not the ones you list. Take a look at my haves, and there are others not listed there as well.

(newbies, it can be helpful now that this is becoming clearer, to go back to the original post and re-read the description of the swap system. Might be all the clearer now, and Patty does a good job of describing the nice way things work out with this thing.)

Aditional note: there are lots of traders here that have some substantial seed stocks, with lots of things that are not posted to their Haves list....and they're breaking into them for this.

A lot of the traders are in this swap for their third year. That says a lot overall.

Intelkid/David,
Yes, some cheapie seeds - I've got several "general things" on my want list for example. I'll take a pack of your yellow fr. marigolds too. Wal-mart, and www.valueseeds.com (a very good one!) are good places for cheap seeds (and note the seeds count on those packs there - if they've got 300 seeds, you can split it into several trades).

I have like 8 packs of seeds for you, mostly bonsaiing trees, not traditional ones, but interesting ones to use. Two I'm growing myself already. Anyway, let us know what you decide.

When I've done this swap before, or others, I've said I don't care about getting back the same number I sent in. I'd be happy to "sponsor" Intelkid, by specifying that...20? packages of seed I send in are in his name, and all he needs to do is provide the additional postage. Only, of course, if that won't make Patty's job harder, it's all up to Patty!

I'm fine with grolikecrazy joining.

OK all,
First Thank you Tina for explaining you will get the amount you sent plus 2 bonus from me.The extras that I don't send to the intended receipient are sent to others that are looking for the same thing or similar.I try to send mostly things you want but some things may not be on your list.I can't send all sent or I would be adding tons more than I already do.I usually don't get a lot sent for me but added over 400 from my stash or garden to make everyone happy and keep a lot of doubles of things I don't need and do a giveaway later to get rid of them.I also am in a neighborhood group I turned on to wintersowing last year that I use some for that I don't use for myself.I love seeing the happy posts when everyone receives their seeds so it is worth it I do get some seeds from my want lists.

Welcome grolikecrazy I sent you a welcome with my address.

luvgardening2 I will send only edibles if thats what you want make a note of that in your envelope.

I have not heard back from Kamil or Linda so I guess without want lists they aren't playing I think we can give Linda a few more days and intelkid can stay in stage rat it sounds good. Yotetrapper heard from kamiljablo who said he wasn't going to play.

So here are the changes
66-grolikecrazy is in and new please don't forget her
56-intelkid is still in
45-ibartoo we will wait a few days on a response
37-kamiljablo is out

I got a pack of seeds yesterday from pattyb wow Patty you are a dahlia lover have you grown them from seed they are one of my favorites but have had no luck from seeds any tips anyone?
We have a great group here with great seeds you will be surprised at some of the seeds you get.
I will have to start a new update soon we are nearing the limit again.
Angie must be away or very busy with the holidays.I miss you Angie.Tina you are doing a great job filling in for her thanks for all the help answering questions there are only so many hours in the day I wish there were more.LOL

Hey there Patty-
I like to start Dahlias from seed every year just to see how they will bloom- but here in Z4- I have to start them early indoors.
I start them just like I start almost everything indoors- I use wet Miracle grow- sow seeds on top- and cover with fine clean construction sand found in the cement isle at the depot, place seeded cups/pots/6Pack containers into an aluminium baking pan and cover with plastic wrap and place under lighted shelves in the cool basement, somethings get bottom warmth til germination. If I get a good cover with the wrap- I won't have to water again till the leaves push the wrap off. I will always bottom water into the pan- not the pots. I think I start Dahlias in March here for our Memorial Day frost date.
I find I do best with the leave it alone and don't fuss with it approach to seed starting- like WinterSowing, and SpringSowing- I give them a good place to start from- try to keep the pests away (sand on top for the indoor pots)- make sure they stay humid but not soaking (plastic wrap on top), a bit of warmth from the lights on a timer- I don't disturb the roots till transplant time (bottom water) and I find most seeds agree with this treatment and grow very well.
I do hope you will enjoy seeing dahlias blooming from seed this year! And be able to save your favorite tubers for years to come!

Ohh I love Dahlias. Haven't grown them from seed either, but I'm ready to try with the info above!!! That sounds GREAT!!

These were a flower that was a favorite of my Dads and those and glads were the only ones he grew. When he passed away, his Dahlias and Glads were neglected (long sad story and I won't go there...) Unfortunately, I never received any of Dad's tubors or bulbs, so they have a very soft spot with me.

kilngod, where I live and especially this time of year getting seeds at wal-mart or any place are pretty much non existent. They never have a wide variety of seeds. I would have to go out of town to a super wal-mart or some other place. Or of course ordering online. :) That's very generous of you too for the bonsais. I live kinda western/central, close to IN. I'm on central time.

Stage_rat, I don't know what to say but thank you for your generous offer to sponsor me. I hope this doesn't make it harder for you. The additional postage I can do as I said in another post above.

I'm still in. Sorry if then anyone took me out of their package b/c of my earlier posts.

I would love to see Chris be able to join us in this swap as so many others seem to agree. (I read a little further and see that she's in... WELCOME, CHRIS! You're gonna have a great swap with us!)

Amy (morguegirl) - I would love to grow those Guyanese Peas, if you don't mind sending some in for me. Thanks so much for posting the offer! They sound very interesting!

Mark (markcase1964) - If you're sending more in to Patty, I saw that you had Black Walnut, Native Pecan, and Jerusalem Artichoke available before. Do you still have some of those that you could send in for me?

David (intelkid) - I sure hope you decide to stay. It seems that others that thought they didn't have much were still able to fill some wants when they posted and were able to participate and get things back that they really want. I think it'll be fun, and you'll enjoy it if you stay! (As I read more posts, I see stage_rat has offered very generously to assist you! Wow! It amazes me over and over again, how wonderful the GW'ers are! Welcome back, David!)

Happy New Year everyone!
