Dr. Seuss brug....

plantmaven(8b/9a TX)November 14, 2011

Carrie, this is from the original one from you. It froze completely to the ground this past winter. I could not believe it when in about May it began producing shoots.

So all of this is one year's growth.

Plantmaven Kathy, how about a picture of that gorgeous huge datura? It's as big as my bathroom ... LOL

Kathy, that is gorgeous, and yes, that is what he does in one season. Mine has been inground since a cutting (on the advice of the lady who gave it to me), and he comes back each year and proves himself over and over.
This is why if I could have only one brug, it would be this one.

Wow -- that is a huge and beautiful plant. I didn't know daturas would get that big.

Thank you for posting the photo, complete with Mavea on alert. No bigger than the gallon jug she is the sweetest and smartest little dog I ever met!

The Dr. Seuss brug is, of course, beautiful too. I'm glad now that I kept one. After suffering through the terrible summer I was surprised to see how quickly it put on a bunch more buds when it was replanted.

That is one big datura..............wow !!!! And still has leaves and everything.....freeze/frost got mine. It amazes me that they can hold themselves upright. And I like your garden helper as well..........she seems quite interested.

Beautiful brug Kathy! I have one from a cutting you gave me. It bloomed like crazy last year and then froze back. The one sprout it got only grew about 2' this summer so I dug it up to baby it this winter. Dr. Seuss is a great brug.

That Datura is beautiful too.

Thanks y'all. It has been so awesome. And smells heavenly.

My Maeve is a gem. The only "bad" thing she ever does, is she will once in a while will leave me a "tootsie roll" if it is cold.

Those are magnificent. I really do need to look in to adding a few Brug's to the area around my patio...

What a fun looking plant.
How would I grow one of these in Austin? From a seed?
If from a cutting, when would be a good time to acquire one to use?
Early Spring?

The brug was from a cutting. The datura was from seed.
