Hey Composters....

ginnypenny(East TXZ8)December 4, 2011

Can I put shredded newsprint in my compost bed? Lucky for me I have lots of family that wanted to help with my new worm bed. Now I have LOTS and LOTS more shredded paper than I need for the worms.

I have a large compost pile...really two..that I have only put plant matter in. Can I add this? What ratio, or is there one?

What about bermuda sprigs. I DO NOT want that stuff to make it through the process and get in my beds.....

news paper yes..
Best is 2-parts GREEN to 1-part BROWN
but anywhere close will work, it may just take longer.

To further confuse you check out the link below.

bermuda... no no no... absolutely not or you might be digging it out of where ever you spread your compost.

You could get away with it IF IF IF you keep a roaring hot compost pile and turn it a lot and keep futzing with it a long time. Really really cook that puppy.

But with us coming into winter, and knowing most people just don't have the time or desire to mess with the pile that much I suggest you don't put bermuda in there at all.

Here is a link that might be useful: brown to green ratios for composting
