That pre-existing thing that Romney will cover
"After the first presidential debate at the University of Denver in Colorado on Wednesday night, one of Mitt RomneyâÂÂs top advisers acknowledged that, as a result RomneyâÂÂs plan to repeal Obamacare, people with pre-existing medical conditions would likely be unable to purchase insurance.
The admission directly contradicts the GOP candidateâÂÂs claim during the debate that âÂÂpre-existing conditions are covered under my planâ a contention Romney has repeated on the trail and that his campaign has repeatedly walked back.
âÂÂWith respect to pre-existing conditions, what Governor Romney has said is for those with continuous coverage, he would continue to make sure that they receive their coverage,â said Eric Fehrnstrom, referring to existing laws which require insurance companies to sell coverage to people who already have insurance, or within 90 days of losing their employer coverage.
Pressed by TPMâÂÂs Evan McMorris-Santoro, Fehrnstrom said those who currently lack coverage because they have pre-existing conditions would need their states to implement their own laws" like RomneyâÂÂs own Massachusetts health care law" that ban insurance company from discriminating against sick people.
âÂÂWeâÂÂd like to see states do what Massachusetts did,â Fehrnstrom said. âÂÂIn Massachusetts we have a ban on pre-existing conditions.â end quote
Governor Romney attacking Obamacare was hilarious: I'll repeal evil Obamacare, and have all 50 states setup individual Romneycares, which are designed to function just like Obamacare. The feds can't tell insurers what to do, but all 50 states can. You, the President, can't force them to cover people, but I, the Governor, can.
So lets let all those bankrupt states handle it, shall we? Jebus, Massachusetts has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the country, twice that of the lowest income states. Sucks if you were born in Mississippi.
