She is on her way, but is it a fool's errand in view of the history off the region? Methinks that it is . And how about McCain's suggestion of sending Bill?
McCain suggested that? I've been thinking that. Not sure if he wants that kind of job anymore. He's been so busy with his foundation work.
But wouldn't it be great if he were the special Middle East envoy? What a way to cap a career. I think one of his regrets was not having done more in the Middle East.
She certainly is more qualified than Obama to get something meaningful accomplished isn't she?
Barack Obama hides behind a woman once again.
What a guy.
Huh? He is the prez and delegates. When the time is right he will be active if he sees an opening...
? What? You lost me.
He'll give a speech from some country.
Don't be bitter, reconsider...
I think that Iron Dome is already preventing some carnage but whats that to the likes of classic gripers. Brighton can't tell you what a drag it is to see you back!
"Israel's starry-eyed love affair with its Iron Dome anti-missile system, which has enjoyed spectacular success in protecting Israeli citizens from Hamas missiles. The ingenious Israeli development, which could potentially change the ground rules of modern warfare, was bankrolled by the Obama Administration to the tune of $274 million, with over $600 million pledged for the next three years."
The clowns of the right were predicting a different response form such a scenario you 2 snipe with no details to back up your malevolence other than the usually go to!
The only one who would be successful in reaching peace over there is Allah. Anyone know how to find Allah?
October , I think you may be right but we better find the God of Abraham too...not sure the Israeli government will listen to Allah although I suspect the people would.
My thoughts and prayers go with Mrs. Clinton, I can't imagine why there would be criticism of sending our top diplomat to the region. I wish her success.
Pray for Peace
Why is sending the Secretary of State to Israel even a question...that's her job isn't it?
Yes, of course, it's her job. Anything to criticize Obama.
Because John McCain who has been right on so many other things is sputtering around like so many other bitter babies that he wants something else & he wants it now.
There some chatter now that a cease fire is eminent we'll see & even if there is one the crew on here will find something to dump on.
Do you really think that bunch of men with their background of keeping women quiet, and uneducated are going to sit down and pay attenion to what a FEMALE says?

The elephant in the room you may have exposed, agnes!
Well, maybe those pantsuits will scare them into submission!
It only takes a minute to support the carnage. Maybe she can stop it in a month or two?

Do you know what you're talking about?
You do know Golda Meir was the Prime Minister of Isreal, right?
You do know that Palestian woman are very educated, right?
Education paves the way for change and is held in high regard by Palestinians, so Palestinian women tend to be well educated. In the academic year 2010/2011, girls accounted for around half of all students enrolled at Palestinian schools, making up 49.5âÂÂ% of the primary school population and 54.2âÂÂ% of secondary school students. Last year's statistics show an even stronger female presence in higher education, where 57.2âÂÂ% of students were young women. Among graduates, too, women form a clear majority - around 60âÂÂ% in the academic year 2008/2009.
You do know about Madeleine Albright, right? Perhaps this will job your memory:
Well, maybe those pantsuits will scare them into submission!
Another nasty comment from someone who doesn't make nasty comments. Ummmmmmm Hmmmmmmmm.

...Perhaps this will jog your memory...
My comment about Hilary's pantsuits wasn't nasty, it was funny.
LOTS of people, including beloved late night hosts, make fun of Hilary's pantsuits.
Making nasty comments directly to other posters, however, would be your forte, jillinnj.
Hillary's fair game.
Other posters aren't.
Read the rules of the forum, dear.
I do remember Madeline Albright.
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it.
A ceasefire has been announced. Turn the plane around.
We are waiting to see if this will really happen. Looking with hopeful but realistic eyes. Our leaders are blathering as usual, so are all of the others. Who knows what they mean, but here we sit, waiting. In the meantime, the missiles are still falling - maybe everyone just wants to shoot their wad before the cutoff. It's happened before!
Thank you for all your kind words.
bunch of men with their background of keeping women quiet
Anyone familiar with Dr. Hanan Ashrawi?
Here's Albright's full quote. Brush only included the part he wanted to, I guess.
"I must have been crazy; I should have answered the question by reframing it and pointing out the inherent flaws in the premise behind it. Saddam Hussein could have prevented any child from suffering simply by meeting his obligations. Instead, I said the following: 'I think this is a very hard choice, but the price, we think, the price is worth it.' As soon as I had spoken, I wished for the power to freeze time and take back those words. My reply had been a terrible mistake, hasty, clumsy, and wrong. Nothing matters more than the lives of innocent people. I had fallen into a trap and said something that I simply did not mean. That is no one's fault but my own."
Taking responsibility for what one says. Now there's a good idea.
demi - I am not your 'dear' and would prefer you not refer to me that way. It's condescending. But, you knew that. Practice what you preach.
The Obama haters here will do and say anything to disparage him. Hillary is Secretary of State. This is HER job, delegated by the guy in charge...the president. If she is successful , it will be one more feather in her cap. Never has a person been more qualified to make a presentational run. Hillary 2016...go for it.
demi - I am not your 'dear' and would prefer you not refer to me that way
I would prefer that you don't insult me, personally, jill.
I won't call you anything if you stop with the insulting comments and mischaracterizations of my comments.
Ball's in your court, JILL.

He'll give a speech from some country.
Oh, I get it, it's 1945 Obama should be in Israel managing one of the machine guns ;)
"Well, maybe those pantsuits will scare them into submission!
They scare the heck out of me. Yuk. Hillary looks great in a skirt. Super legs, IMO.
Can she stop the war? Yeah, I think she can do great things, if she's permitted to. If Hillary was a guy, I would say the same thing. Not the legs thing.
Oh I thought it was because we had light footprints or something like that according to McCain. Heavy footprints would have the yahoos on here talking about bring the boys home and En Pointe would be someone disparaging the repeal of DADT.
Can she succeed where her husband failed?
"Sit back Bill, and let me show you how it's done."
If you back up a few months, you'll realize that Nancy actually led me to Madeline's atrocious feelings.
And guess what, you never said a contrary word to Nancy about it. I'm only repeating what I learned a few months ago about Madeline's shameful remarks. I'll do more research on it.
Brush, the difference is that I'm an equal-opportunity critic.
I didn't see Nancy's comment when it was made.
And by the way, not defending Albright. Just pointing out that she took responsibility for the remark, regretted it and tried to explain where she was coming from. What I cut and paste is from her book.
Of course it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that women have been involved in the middle east for a long time, contrary to agnespuffin's comment.
Labrea... glad to see you're still proud of the job the Prez. is doing. You have a great Thanksgiving. I bet you'll be donating your time helping to feed those less fortunate won't you now?
Ah gee you now you do know I do that from time to time so why bring it up!
A floater always floats & stinks up any room it floats into!
Just send a Donation in my name to GOD'S LOVE WE DELIVER
Nobody would know that better than yourself. I take it you speak from experience.
In the meantime, Hillary has managed to successfully brokeage a "peace" between Gaza and Israel--probably temporary, knowing the history of that region, but any break in the hostitilities is welcome, and they have evidently agreed to continue productive talks for the future.
Anyone glad? Or would you rather continue the war of words here on HT even though Israel and Gaza have managed to cease attacking each other?
Remember that's "gods love we deliver" 365 days a year not just tomorrow!
I am raising my hand.
Hillary and Bill Clinton are both respected in the region.
That said, Hamas accomplished what they wanted to accomplish: show the world that their new rockets can reach the highly populated area of Tel Aviv, which I'm sure they believe will put them in a better bargaining position.
Hillary Clinton is awesome - She did a great job.
Yes. Glad that the pant suit wearing woman that nobody would respect was able to accomplish a move toward peace, as temporary as it may be. ;-)
I agree. She worked incredibly hard. What makes it even more remarkable, besides the fact that she is a woman, is she even accomplished the task wearing a pantsuit. ;)
Now let's hope it holds. There have already been 20+ rockets into Israel since they signed the deal.
I wondered if she could have achieved world peace if she'd worn a dress!
I hope the ceasefire holds.
Kudos to Sec. Rodman-Clinton. She is a class act as head of the State Department as she turned out to be as a carpet-bagger Senator from NY State.
Gotta love a powerful woman. There are many of us who are rooting for her to run in 2016.
Bu bu bu bu BENGAZHI !!?! What about how she lied about BENGAZHI ! to protect the socialist, Islamic Obama regime ???
To answer the OP:
So does that mean she has crawled out from under the bus?
I have great admiration and respect for Hillary Clinton but I don't believe that she herself made much happen here. The might, power and money of the US for sure.
She has done a remarkable job as SOS , probably one of the best in modern times. This mess in the ME is no way near resolved . I'm hoping that a special emissary will be appointed so she can remove herself from the conflict and finish her tenure on a high note.
Cautious optimism that it holds so the people of both sides can get a break and take a breath.
Hillary didn't do it alone, there were many hands in this, but kudos for her and the President. She accomplished things for both sides. She got the the routes into Gaza opened that have been closed for months for the Palestinians and she got the Israeli's help with security including the problem of the tunnels but...it can break at any minute. There are a number of people on both sides who would like to see it fail for many reasons and their own self interests.
Give credit where credit is due:
Both the Israelis and the people of Gaza and the Eqyptians will get a lot of money from the USA and other countries for this truce. I expect the truce will last until the money runs out. Call me cynical. I don't feel like tracking it down, but I saw that we've told the Israelis that we will give them more than the $3 billion that we've already given them this year for the Iron Dome system. That there is $350 million in the pipelines for Egypt that will get speeded up.
An aside... I miss going to Intrade. There is a betting market there for the likelihood that the USA or Israel will bomb Iran before some specified date. It's an EXTREMELY thin market so I wouldn't be reading too much into it, but still, on November 7, the day after our election, there was a very large drop in the probability that Iran would be hit.
