Celebrities before they were famous

hamiltongardener(CAN 6a)November 17, 2012

It's funny sometimes when you go back and watch older movies and you realize that guy with the bit part or the kid is actually (insert celebrity name).

Like Russ from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation now plays Leonard on Big Bang Theory (Wow, look how young he was there!)

Or certain movies that now have an all-star cast... but they didn't at the time they were filmed. Like The Outsiders, for instance. I bet most people can name evey member of the cast now, but they were relatively small potatoes then.

Of course, the other aspect of going back and watching older movies makes you realize how old these actors are now. Kinda weird.

Not to mention ourselves being 30 years older... as in the case of The Outsiders pictured.

I just got older - fame escaped me.

Ah. Red Dawn, right. Not exactly a household name, but I do remember him now.

How about Robert Blake? Wasn't he one of the Little Rascals?

Speaking of celebs and Hollywood... what's with the remake of every damn movie lately? Are they all out of new ideas, or something? Some movies are classics that can't be successfully remade... like "Footloose" for example... in my opinion, anyway.

Seven men and all have dark hair. If that were a picture of seven young women, what do you bet that six would be blonde.

Yes, Robert Blake played Mickey who replaced Porky.

Jackie Cooper got his start on the Little Rascals, too.

I would bet "not".

" If that were a picture of seven young women, what do you bet that six would be blonde."

The smart one would be the non-blonde, because every group needs at least one smart person. :-)

I say that as a graying blonde and as humor, not a political statement.

I thought ninamarie was referring to the blond look of the 50s and 60s that all the movie stars were striving for the Marilyn Monroe blond look.

Most of the stars today seem to be going dark hair and red if they can pull off the fiery redhead look.

My high school yearbook has a photo of Harrison Ford as a skinny sophomore whose 'activities' were just one: Audio-Visual Boy. (Some here may be old enough to remember the mopey kid who wheeled projectors and film strips to classrooms.)

I've been a blond for so long I can't remember exactly what shade my natural hair color is! It's somewhere around a dirty/dishwater blond, as they used to call it, I think.

If I were graying nicely... say, a beautiful silver or a white... I wouldn't even bother coloring my hair anymore. But I was not given such luck, and the gray coming in is ugly.

Thanks to Loreal, I feel younger, look younger, and I've tried pulling off various shades of red and browns... not a chance in hell! I have a face that requires blond hair. I simply don't look right with any other shade.

Lionheart, being blond has a few major advantages... they may be stereotypes, but if someone is going to stereotype me as a dumb blond, I can play that role. I've gotten a lot of help that way in the past! ;-)

"dishwater blonde" gawd I haven't heard that term in ages, mine used to naturally bleach out in the summer, we spent all day outdoors and a neighbor scolded my mom "for bleaching my hair" LOL

Well here is one who is not a celeb/movie watcher, I recognized one actor who has since passed away.

I recognized three: one whom I've seen in a few movies, and the other two from photos plastered everywhere in various media.

I take that back; I saw one of the plastered-photo duo in Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.

Patrick Swayze?

I also recognize Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Matt Dillon, and I couldn't think of C. Thomas Howell's name...

Tom Cruise is the other guy, Jodi. I pictured you as a short haired brunette. I see Chase as blonde. Hamilton as auburn. I am auburn.

It's nice just prattling for a change. Like talking about cranberry sauce...

I ran into another one. Ryan Gosling when he was a cute little kid.

His mother was my son's teacher last year. A substitute teacher who ended up taking the class over for the rest of the semester.

Nope... platinum blond, short, thin, and definitely not the norm in Grandmas.

I don't care for cranberry sauce...

I might be sorry I asked, but what's "the norm in Grandmas"?

In my group of friends, almost all are Grandmas (except me, waaaaah) and keep themselves nicely. We even have a Great Grandma among us, mid 50s and just gorgeous. Some of these women even have tattoos ;)

The notion of an overweight, grey haired, bun toting, housecoat wearing Grandma is so yesterday.

I don't know... maybe I carry an embedded visual of Grandmothers through visions of my Mom and her group, or my ex's Grandmother and her group... but I always think of polyester pants suits, weekly hairdresser appointments with upswept, sprayed hairdos, bingo or casino nights at the local church, shopping trips or lunches, club group bus tours, etc...

I tend to be more of a mix between Ozzy Osbourne and "the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", with a little bit of Hippie and Rock & Roll, mixed in for good measure!

You might find me wearing hiphugger jeans and boots, with a colorful stripe of pink or red dye in my hair. Or maybe I'll be ensconced in a gauzy dress or tyedye, wearing sandals.

I love loud heavy metal, classic rock, blues, but never country... I adore reading, getting dirty in my gardens, and sleeping with my Olde Bulldogge.

And I do not conform to anyone's idea of what I should look like or wear or act like for my age. I might move a little slow at times, but that can't be helped. Otherwise, I'm as different as different gets, skin art, body jewelry, and all...
