Senator Deeds Critically Injured
Shocking news. Apparently son Gus, now dead from gunshot wounds, had been released yesterday from a mental health facility. Details are apparently not yet available.
"Virginia state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, Bath Democrat, is in fair condition after he was stabbed at his home in rural Bath County Tuesday morning and his son, Austin "Gus" Deeds, died there from a gunshot wound in what police are investigating as an attempted murder and suicide.
State troopers and Bath County deputies found Mr. Deeds, 55, stabbed multiple times in the head and upper torso after having an "altercation" with his son. He was flown to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
After the stabbing, Mr. Deeds left the scene and walked down the hill from his house to Route 42, where he was spotted and picked up by a cousin driving along the road. The two drove to the cousins residence and called 911, police said.
