old brass door knobs

Maggie4(4-5)April 23, 2004

I have been looking on how to attach old brass door knobs to a piece of old molding. If you take them off the door, you loose the attachment. I have seen this and they make neat clothes hangers. does anyone know how they do this?

Thanks

Can you put a dowel (the proper size) into the knobs...maybe silicone them in?

Do a Door Knob search. Someone in Garden Junk/? gives the instructions.

The dowel rod sounds like a good idea. Just as an idea how about bondo in the can which comes with the hardener. Mix yourself up a batch, fill in the knob where you want to. When dry drill and add a screw threaded on both ends. Dave

Solid brass I think is by far the best and most durable and valued chice for door hardware. But Bright Brass is plated and is junk and should be replaced. Stainless steel is the next best or nickel. Avoid chrome; it is prone to corrosion and cannot be refurbished. Brass if cared for is the classiest abd can last forever
