How can i preserve flower scent for as long as possible?

jerem(5b)August 11, 2010

I have a couple lilies growing and the scent is AMAZING, literally the best smell i have smelled from a flower personally and i want to save this smell. What is the best way to do it? Dry them? Soak them in oil? Vodka? I want to keep the scent as long and as strong as possible. What are my options and methods?

Thanks so much!

I packed my flowers, (no stems or greenery) into a glass container with a tight lid . pack as many as you can tightly into the container and pour 100 proof vodka to the top of the flowers and add an ounce of mineral oil on top. seal and place in a sunny window . give the container a shake twice a week for about 2-3 weeks. Then I strain everything through a triple layer of cheesecloth saving only the liqiuds. Pour back into the container and let the oil settle on top. skim the oil and use it for scenting things or your bath water, use the vodka in a sprayer for room scent. I do this method with citrus flowers peonies, lilies, roses, lily of the vally and pine needles.
