sumac question

noinwiSeptember 10, 2005

I haven't done much drying of flowers and such. I would like to cut some sumac berries to use in a fall spray, but I read that the berries will shed and make a mess. Is there any way to keep them stable? Any info is appreciated.

I've tried them several times and didn't have too much trouble with them shedding but they don't seem to hold their color very well. They are such a vibrant red in the outdoors but don't look that red in an arrangement. Cutting them early in the season might be the answer. The branches are difficult to arrange. But, give them a try, you might like the results.

Thank you. I think I'm a bit late this year. I cut some and they were full of bugs and falling apart already. I'll try again next year, but earlier.
