aquilachrysaetosUpdated Judging from what I can see of the leaves, the vein arrangement does not look like Elm. Elms have a central vein with the side veins evenly spaced and running parallel to each other.

ceriseUpdated Trailing rosemary was my thought, too. The heat will not bother it a bit and it will hide some of the brick, making the planter actually look larger than it is. Its easy to grow & so forgiving.
