occidentalisUpdated If you do cut it back to save it, it might look bad for this year, but you know it will absolutely come back next year. Clematis, bless them, are hard to kill.

gardenguru1950(SunsetZ16)Updated If you're talking about Murraya koenigii, the curry leaf tree, it might depend on where exactly in the Bay Area you're located. There was a small one that grew down here, Zone 15/16, that lasted for several years (to 15 feet high)...
