Why do jars crack sometimes?

TrishcuitUpdated I went through a lot of effort once to roast sweet peppers to pickle. One of my lovely jars broke in the BWB. Very disappointing since there was only two jars to begin with!

TrishcuitUpdated I just did it the other day, but I made a 1/3 batch. But I do a lot of baking so reducing recipes is normal for me. (or in the case of bread, multiplying to feed the bread fiends in my family.)
