foot bone spurs

I'm getting 2 bone spurs and some bone chips from an old break removed. The only advice I've managed to get out of my doctor is 'you'll know' and 'if it hurts, don't do it.'

Anybody want to guess how long before I can get back into gardening, or should I just write this summer off?

marie, probably write off most of summer. I had the surgery several years ago. I was told not to put weight on my foot at all and started off with a walker for what seemed like forever. Don't remember how long. But the pain was much worse before the surgery.
Good luck to you and stay off that foot.
