bulb planting tip

Hi, all

This is something we tried last year. Instead of planting our tulips, narcissus, crocus bulbs directly into the large containers on our patio we potted the bulbs up into 5" plastic pots and then just sank them into the larger containers. Why you ask? Well every spring it was getting more difficult to remove the foliage and spent bulbs. Now as soon as the flowers are finished we pull up the pot and set it aside ( out of sight) where the foliage can die down. Plus we can move the 5" pots around when they are blooming to a choice location. One thing we are doing this year is adding pieces of gravel just under the bottom of pot for drainage and to see if it will stop the roots from getting too good a hold when they poke through the drain holes.

Tulips and narcissus: 5 bulbs per 5" pot.

Small bulbs i.e. crocuses, etc... as many as you can fit in per pot.
