You can try growing Pachypodiums. They are in the same family as Plumeria and Adenium.

You can also grow them on So. Cal.

Speaking of Plumeria . . . that
is another plant that needs to be rescued; son gave it to me when it was a
quarter the size it is now. I was not
sure about where to plant it permanently, so it sat on the ground—in a milk
crate with some soil—for over 14 years.
Never pruned or fertilized—got water only when it rained. Since I recently almost lost a large 25-year-old
Adenium because of my naiveté, I have been procrastinating on giving attention
to this Plumeria until I sought guidance.
Guidance as in: Lift the whole thing up and replant in container or
ground, or cut branches and root, or air-layer, or . . .? Anyway, when I am ready, I will go to a
Plumeria forum for help—got my hands
full right now with Adenium seedlings.

Oh, and welcome, dourbest, to the
Adenium forum. I am fairly new too. The good folks here have been very nice, are
full of wisdom, knowledge, and experience, and are very helpful.

Bong! I see a banana-like thing in that picture. And colocasia. Some palms too? And something I know as balimbing, I don't know what it is in English although I often see the fruit at Wholefoods--horrible variety. They have none of the tangy, sweet/bitter/sour flavour it is supposed to have.

Why didn't any of you tell me about plants 14 years ago! lol

Pagan. Yes, young miniature banana tree that will bear sweet fruit,
and Colocasia esculenta - taro. I have an
Averrhoa Carambola/Balimbing - starfruit tree growing
elsewhere--the one you see here is from same family, Averrhoa
Bilimbi. Locals only know it as "pickle" tree because the
fruit looks like a pickle and is extremely sour. The
coconut palm fronds look abnormal because the heart
is being eaten by Rhinoceros beetles.

Adenium seedlings .
. . I had to repot all my seedlings when I found Rhino beetle larvae. The
beetles are attracted to and lay their offspring in organic media. When
seedlings were repotted into media containing 60% perlite, the beetles left
them alone. So this is another reason organic media is not good for
Adeniums--it attracts all kinds of pests. The article Rick recently
shared mentions termites.

Pagan! Just discovered this discussion was from January 6 - 7, 2014, then revived by a seed company on March 4, 2015!

Well, I did a little sleuthing
because I was curious about a September 21, 2013 discussion that was revived March
20, 2015. The comment submitted did not
make sense. So I looked at the profile
and discovered this entity made almost an identical comment, reviving a 2011 discussion in the Tropical Fruits forum.

Go figure!

Oh, one more thing--this entity attached a link to a word, but I did not dare go there.

I hope Dourbest at least found some good seeds.

I know rhinoceros beetles are pests but they're pretty cool.
