Looks as though your DR is trying to tie itself in a knot, lol! Nice job with the raising up but I think the stringy roots may well dry out pretty soon. I prefer to slice them cleanly off flush with the caudex....that's just my personal preference though. As long as it has plenty of feeder roots left, it shouldn't hurt it, but it's your decision ;)

Thanks Gill, and thanks for the advice on the stringy roots removal; I'll do that. As you can see in the photo, the DR has plenty of good sized roots to keep it healthy. This picture was taken the day I came home from the nursery and lifted my plant out of its pot. I was both surprised and proud to see all this growing under the surface. This plant appears to be a cutting rather than a seed grown, but I'm no expert. Also, it lives out on our deck all Spring/Summer and comes in for Autumn/Winter. I have seen red flower buds on it for the last 3 years now, but because I always placed it in the shady spot of the deck, the buds never matured. Again, I didn't know the plant's requirements; I do now, and I'm looking forward to blooms this year! You can visit our website:
