This plant by the way seems to give out very small leafs

I have no clue what could be causing that. Hope someone is able to give you some ideas.

Averil, touch and see if it is still firm.
New leaves are coming out so I hope it will okay.

Very odd. Any idea if there was a critter attached where the hole is now? I would guess the pests you spied were more likely to be mealy bugs...were they mini-pinkish-woodlouse-lookalikes with some long filaments at their rear end? They hide under fluffy cotton wool like deposits. The papery holes could be where they've damaged the skin and it's healed over, maybe?

I found a soft 1cm paintbrush good for spring cleaning dust and debris and also some pesky mealy bugs from my DR's. Just hold the pot and the caudex firmly and brush away in all the nooks and crannies, and over/under leaves too. Do it well away from other plants though, outside is best.

Thanks Gill, I didnt see any bugs at all but there was some cotton wool type deposits, very small tho and i wiped it over with surgical spiri. Its had them twice already. I have isolated it from other plants. I shall get a little brush as you suggest and keep an eye on it thanks.

Averil, these mealy bugs are dead crafty.... they hide away amongst the white fluff,so it's easy to miss them. They are soft bodied and squish easily, you may well have obliterated them when you ridded the fluff stuff! Check your other plants that were nearby, their mums and dads could be hiding there, having hopped onto the DR's for a spot of hanky-panky and left you a bunch of babies to deal with, hehe!
