Came in from work today and just had to do my daily check on the seeds I planted on Monday evening. I originally placed them in my electric propagator, but I fear it may have blown. As we've not had time to check it out I made the decision to confine the seeds to the depths of the boiler cupboard on Tuesday.....making sure they were far enough away from the red hot pipes this time as I didn't want to boil another 3 lots!
There was nothing going on in the Ad. obesum variegated or 'Candelabra' departments, BUT I have 2 Ad. somalense germinated already. The seeds were considerably larger than the others at almost twice the length so I look forward to the next few days when they can get going properly.
Will have to keep them warm and under a light for a while as it's really cold and sunless here, our lovely spring weather has slipped away yet again.

| Have any more of the seeds germinated? Do the somalense seedlings look like obesums? I started some plumeria stenophylla seeds and the seedlings look very different then the rubras. |

No more have sprouted as yet : ( Here's a pic of the Ad. somalense seeds that are looking promising, they were planted a week ago today. There's nothing different in their appearance so far anyway, apart from their size as the seeds they emerged from were twice the length of any obesums I have sown. Last years arabicum seeds were also larger than the obesums too. I can easily tell them apart from the obesums as the shape of their leaves is broader, quite rounded in fact and the leaf itself is thicker and has a leathery texture almost. Gill from the UK.

Hi there, well the 2 'swan' seedlings and some newly planted seeds have travelled with us on a few days break 50 miles away at our daughters as I was afraid of leaving them home alone!!! The d/h does not know what to think of me now, lol! Two more have just begun to sprout, but nothing has germinated in the variegated pot or the Ad obesum 'Candelabra' pot yet...I don't think they will sprout now. Gill from the UK. |

| OMG you took them with you!!! You do have it bad. lol Even I would never consider taking a plant on vacation with me and I'm pretty bad. These had better grow well for you or I'm going to jump the "pond" and have it out with them. |

Hi, we're back! I thought that would amuse you all!! We have returned after a mini-break at No2 daughter/hubby's place. Our kind neighbour comes over to look after all the plants but she tends to be a bit heavy handed with the watering can so I feared for the life of the 'swan siblings'. They have straightened up but have turned a very fethching bright shade of red, they are also rather tall and thin despite being in good light. It has been extremely hot here this past week with temps in high 20'sC to low 30'sC, so I think they should have had some factor 20 slapped on them! A couple more seeds had the smallest sign of a root emerging when we were due to leave and being in a small pot they dry out so quickly in this heat it was my only option to take them with me, but oh, how I suffered for it, talk about being laughed at!! Do I care......what do you think?? (:0P) I'll get you a pic in the next day or so. Cheers! Gill from the UK. |
